Miles of miles

racing Spring south

into orange-blossom scented dawn

Veiled cyprus loom

wet and misty with alligator edges

Stovelit ghost stories

throb and tremble in the Blue Ridge

Morning’s curtain creeps

down the holler, trailing light

Hearts and homes open,

soul food for deep hungers

New friendships blossom,

old ones savored

across the table

from first course to last,

Dissolving into music,

Lullaby quiet,

loud as a thousand voices roaring back,

Dancers drumming new rhythms with their feet,

Grinning faces of all ages

hitting the groove

Music and dance a bridge we cross

to each other, and home again
